A New Wardrobe

February 13, 2011

Happy Birthday to me!  Today Tyler and I went out to eat with my  mom and dad to celebrate my dad’s and my birthday.  We went to our favorite Mexican Restaurant.  When we got back to our apartment, my mom gave me my birthday present.  She has made me a Valentine’s day scarf and hat to wear, and a whole bunch of clothes. When I say a lot of clothes, I mean, she gave me a new wardrobe.  All the clothes are very professional looking and great to wear to work.  I am very blessed!

Free Toothpaste!

February 13, 2011

That’s what I got for learning to coupon.  Yesterday, Tyler and I went to SC to learn the basics of using coupons in combination with sales.  I came home excited to see what deals I could get this week.  Rite Aid was having a sale on toothpaste and deodorant.  We got 6 tubes of Colgate Total, 6 sticks of Dove deodorant, 1 box of Band-aids, and 1 tube of Neosporin; all for $2.00.  (This is including the “free money” Rite Aid gives you with their Up+ Rewards).  All in all, I feel pretty accomplished.

Food for Thought

February 3, 2011

Since I am home sick, I decided to do some research on food, considering the episode yesterday with the juice.  Here are some of the articles I found interesting:

These bread loaves look so good.  I had no idea how beneficial soaked oats were.

Even more reason to cook at home with ingredients that you get locally.

This makes me thankful for a mother-in-law who makes amazing granola.  We will never buy cereal again.

This just makes me mad.

Urgh… Stomach Bug Attacks

February 2, 2011

So today didn’t go so well.  I was up all night, sick as a dog.  I went into work only to have my boss tell me to go home.  (I am so lucky to have such an understanding boss who doesn’t make me work when I am sick.)  I went to the doctor to find out that I have the stomach bug that is going around and that I was pretty dehydrated.  Unfortunately the nurse didn’t read my chart before handing me juice to drink.  (meaning, she didn’t check to see if I was allergic to anything.)  Of course, with my luck, the juice had artificial blueberry flavoring in it.  Needless to say,  I had an allergic reaction.  Now I have to carry an Epi pen with me where ever I go.  Fun stuff.  At least I was at the doctor’s office.  I found out that a lot of juices today contain artificial flavorings in them, which they list on the ingredients list as “other ingredients.”  I guess I will be putting my juicer to work from now on.  At least then, I will know what is in my juices.

Oh, and Happy Birthday to my Daddy… see you when I get well.

Cross Fit Workout at LT’s Primal Fitness

February 1, 2011

I made it back to the gym today.  I’m still sore, but I have to say, I missed going.  Lucy, the owner, is so encouraging.  It felt so good to work out today!  We had to do eight rounds of eight reps of Clean and press, bench press, and dead man hangs.  I have to say, I did not make it through all eight rounds, but I did make it through five!  (which is more that Lucy thought I could do, and more than half!)  I was doing 65 lbs for each of the lifts, which I am very proud of.  I am so looking forward to getting into shape.  At this rate, with this workout, it isn’t going to take too long!

FREE Pasta

January 31, 2011

Or at least really, really cheap.

Tyler and I are heading down to SC in two weeks to learn how to coupon effectively.  In the meantime, our teacher emailed me and let me know about a great coupon.  muellerspasta.com had two coupons that could be printed off several times each, making the pasta on sale a Bi-Lo basically free.   We bought 21 boxes of pasta and only paid 23 cents.  (We basically paid for tax.)  I have to say, bringing in the bags of free pasta into our house was incredible feeling.  If I can get this couponing thing down, we will be living the high life when it comes to eating.

***UPDATE: Mueller’s pasta website took down the coupon.  Currently, there are no coupons on this website.

Marine… ooh rah

January 30, 2011

Tyler is back from MEPS.  His contract is signed.  He will be leaving May 30th to go to boot camp.  I added up the weeks; he will be gone almost 6 months.  At least it is during the summer when all the vegetables and fruits are coming in.  I plan on keeping myself quite busy.  He is really excited.  He will get back from training and start back to school in January 2012 for his bachelors.  He’s found a degree program at a local college that is completely online.  It looks like things are working out after all.

In the mean time, Tyler has begun training.  Every Tuesday night he meets the other Marine recruits for PT at the local office.  Tyler says that is not nearly enough to prepare him for boot camp.  So he started searching for a good gym.  Bill had mentioned Cross Fit training and how much it would help Tyler get prepared.  Boy was Bill ever right!  We found a Cross Fit gym, and started working out.  We went yesterday.  I am so freaking sore!  I knew I wasn’t in great shape, but whoa, I am not in shape at all!  This will prove to be interesting.
